About the Trust

Who we are

Seaton Development Trust is a not-for-profit limited company run by volunteers for the public benefit of the people and environment of Seaton and adjoining parishes.  The Trust is independent of all interest groups and has no allegiance to any political party, religious denomination or commercial operation.

What we stand for

We seek to work together with other voluntary and statutory organisations to create an environment of which Seaton can be proud, build up local amenities, strengthen business and tourism and develop appreciation of our beautiful countryside, with long-term sustainability the foundation of all our activities.

What we do

What we do depends on what is required. In the recent past we have raised funds to justify a Business Development Unit in Seaton. This project has stalled due to lack of government support, but interest continues from the private sector. A long-term project watches over developments on the Seaton regeneration area after the Tesco purchase. We acted against the high noise levels of the pipeline bringing aggregate onto the site and to stop demolition of the Underfleet toilets, but the supermarket is now nearly complete. Interest will soon move to development of the second half of the site – probably when the economy recovers somewhat.  We also contributed to the Local Development Framework.

How we are constituted

The Trust is a registered, not-for-profit limited company registered in England and Wales 03456939.  Our Management Committee and Directors are elected by our members at an Annual General Meeting. We also have several specialist Groups.  Management Committee and all other meetings are open to the public.

Membership

Membership of the Trust is open to anyone on payment of the annual membership fee (currently £2.00). Members can vote at the AGM and receive newsletters throughout the year.
